1. Why should I use an i-Suite Operating Room (OR)?

i-Suite Operating Rooms help improve the quality of the Operating room and provide the ideal environment for delivery of patient care.  Studies have shown that i-Suite Operating rooms can improve the procedural time and the turnover time, which has a positive impact on both patient care and economic concerns within the Operating room.

3. What are the major benefits of an i-Suite Operating Room?

There are four key areas that are most improved by use of a Stryker i-Suite OR.  These areas include efficiency, ergonomics, equipment integration, and information processing.  

• An i-Suite OR can make your facility operate more efficiently, potentially providing time for additional cases or using less employee overtime.  
• Ergonomics are improved by delivering equipment in the correct location where it needs to be accessed.  Surgeons and staff can alleviate stiff necks and shoulders by having equipment located where they can see and use it.
• Stryker integrates the equipment in the room and provides the architecture to allow more efficient use of the equipment needed to conduct surgery.  Fluoroscopy, Patient monitoring data, ultrasound, PACS, and other images can be delivered seamlessly and can improve the functionality of equipment that your facility has or will purchase.

4. What studies show improvements in efficiency?  Do they compare traditional operating rooms to i-Suite Operating Rooms?

Numerous studies have been completed that evaluate the performance of Stryker i-Suite Operating Rooms to traditional Operating Rooms. One such study was conducted by Dr. James Luketich and Dr. Phil Schauer, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  This study showed that nurses were required to manually adjust equipment an average of 15 fewer times per case when using Hermes in an i-Suite OR.  Another study performed by Dr. Christopher Kaeding at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, found improvements in procedure time when using an i-Suite OR.  Operative time in an i-Suite OR was reduced by about 5 minutes for a knee arthroscopy compared to the control group.  Operative time for ACL repairs was about 18 minutes less for Rooms with i-Suite ORs compared to traditional ORs.
